Privacy policy

We keep only what it takes to make your book, send you its link and handle your payment. We do not sell it, and we show no ads.

What we keep, and why

• Your book. The words you write on its pages, the name of the person it is for, the letter in its envelope and the colour inside the envelope. We keep them to show your book at its links.
• Your photos. Your phone shrinks each photo before it is sent, into a print-size copy (3000 pixels on its long side) and a screen copy (1200 pixels), and re-saves it. That leaves the camera's details behind: its make, the date and the place. The book shows the screen copy. The print copy is kept for printing, which the shop does not offer yet. A book holds up to 60 photos.
• Your own stickers. If you add a sticker of your own, your phone makes it smaller (800 pixels on its long side) and saves it again as a new PNG, which leaves the camera's details behind. We keep it with your book and count it in the 60 pictures a book holds. It shows on their link only once you have sent the book, and is deleted with your book, or 30 days after a full refund.
• Your order. After you pay, Stripe tells us your email address and the payment's reference numbers. With them we keep the book and linen you chose, the amount, the dates, and any refund or dispute. We use your email address only to send your private link, and to find your order when you write to us. Nobody who holds a link can see it.
• When the gift is opened. Each time the gift link opens, we note the time and the country it opened from, as our host Cloudflare reports it, keeping the latest 50. We do not keep the address of the device. We keep these notes only as evidence if a payment is disputed.
• Your card. You type your card details on Stripe's page, not ours. We never see or keep them. Stripe also saves you as one of our customers in Stripe, so it can email your receipt and any refund notice.

On your phone or computer

Your browser keeps a few things on your device: the private links of up to 20 books bought on it (shown as "Your book"), whether the book tilts, and the linen you picked while looking. We set no cookies. We use no advertising or tracking. Stripe's payment page belongs to Stripe and follows Stripe's own privacy policy.

Emails

After you pay, we send one email with your private link, from hello@ourlittlescrapbook.com, through Cloudflare's email service. We send it again only if you ask. We send no newsletters or offers. If you ask for a reminder when a book opens, we keep your email address and the time you asked, we only email you that reminder, and every email has a link to unsubscribe that deletes your address.

Where it is kept

• Your book, your order and the gift notes are kept in a Cloudflare D1 database, and your photos in Cloudflare R2 storage. Both are in Cloudflare's Eastern North America region.
• Payments are handled by Stripe.
• Cloudflare hosts the site, so it handles each visit, including your device's internet address. Our own code does not keep that address. Cloudflare keeps its own logs under its privacy policy.

Stripe and Cloudflare may store and process your information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.

Who can see it

• Anyone with your private link can see and change your book. Anyone with the gift link can see what you last sent. Neither link shows your email or payment.
• We, who run the shop, can read the database and the photo storage to run it and to answer you.
• We share nothing with anyone else, apart from Stripe and Cloudflare as described above, or when the law requires it, for example a court order.

How long we keep it

• Your book (words, photos and both links): until you delete it. There is no set time limit: a book stays as long as the site runs. If we ever close, we give notice as the terms say.
• Photos you take out of your book while filling it stay stored until the book is deleted.
• When you delete your book in the editor, its words, photos and both links are deleted at once, and so is our record of the order, including your email address. Stripe keeps its own record of the payment.
• After a full refund, or a dispute the bank decides in your favour, both links close at once. The photos and words are deleted 30 days later, by a daily clean-up. The record of the order stays.
• The record of an order (your email address, the payment and refund references, the dates and the gift notes) is kept until you delete your book, or for 6 years after the end of the tax year of the sale. Stripe keeps its own record of every payment.
• A payment you did not finish leaves a record with the book and linen you chose and the time, but no name or email address. It has no end date today.
• Deleted data can stay in our database's backup history for up to 30 days before it is permanently removed.

Your choices

You can delete your book at any time from its editor. To get a copy of what we keep about you, or to have your order record deleted, write to hello@ourlittlescrapbook.com. We handle these requests by hand and reply within 30 days.

Children

You must be 18 or the age of majority where you live to buy a book.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. For important changes, we will also email buyers at the address they paid with.
